![]() ![]() On another note, besides looking great, WeatherBest has an advantage over other composites. Or was it Kalamazoo that he came from? I get them mixed up. Of course since he came to us from Krypton in a little rocket ship, maybe he is impervious to pain. I'm sure it was warmer to the touch than the cedar railing, but not hot enough to bother a baby's skin. he had a little pair of shorts on so his feet and legs were agaist the decking. Here in Michigan, it doesn't get as hot as Arizona, but last summer my grandson was running around barefoot and even sitting on the deck later in the afternoon on a 95 degree day. My WeatherBest Deck is the lighter color. ![]() ![]() Yes, the decking will get hotter that wood, but what is too hot? walking across burning coats is hot. ![]() a 2000 sq/ft one! At least this lumberyard delivers for free on any order over $500, so my boards will come to me. This stuff is not cheap! But it's easier to swallow the cost when you're building a 400 sq/ft deck, vs. Luckily for me, my deck is going to be relatively small. I'm praying it doesn't get too hot, because I'm dying to use it! It looks excellent, and I especially like the double-sided grain, with one side of the board having a different grain texture than the other, increasing my options. So whatever heat the red and gray retain, the cedar should be slightly less. He only has the Red and the Gray, and I already know I want to use the lighter cedar color. Should give me a very good sense of what it will feel like on my deck. I plan on heading down there one afternoon this week, as it is supposed to be sunny and in the high 80's/low 90's. He invited me to come back to check again sometime later in the day the stuff is basically sitting in direct sun all day long, just as my deck would be. It had only been in the sun for an hour or so at that point, but it didn't feel the least bit hot. He took me to the area of the yard where the WeatherBest is stored, and let me take a look at it. I took a spin down to that yard yesterday, and met with a very friendly salesman who told me that this stuff does great in the sun, and he's never had any complaints about it getting too hot.īeing the skeptic I am, I was looking for proof. I also really like the looks of the stuff. Through WeatherBest's website, I had found a local lumberyard that is a stocking dealer, and that's one reason I am so interested in that specific product. I did this when I was shopping for decking, but my primary comparison was how badly each one faded. The Certainteed is less in density then Trex, due to differences in the construction.Īs previously suggested, I suggest to get samples of any composites you are considering, and leave them out in the sun for comparison. I was pleasantly suprised the first time I walked on my Certainteed Boardwalk decking in the summer, it was not overly warm at all. I'm not sure where Weatherbest falls, but Trex is relatively heavy and dense, and I have heard a few stories of how it is too hot for people to walk on in the summer sun. The sponge will absorb almost no heat, yet the steel will easily burn you when touched. Think of the difference between a sponge (very low density) and a piece of steel (high density) left out in the sun. Alot of it has to do with density of the composite, as well as color.Ī denser (heavier) composite will absorb more heat and will be hotter to the touch. ![]()
